It’s true that carpets add to the beauty of homes, be it the living room, bedroom, kitchen or the hallway. It’s also true that they don’t remain spotless the entire time it’s displayed in the house. More often than we’d like to admit, the carpet is adorned with stains. We’ve spilled coffee, the kids have brought in a whole lot of dirt, the house cat has rolled over the carpet with a dirty toy or there’s a drop of ink or blood and you don’t know how it got there. Well, you’re in luck because we bring to you simple ways to get rid of these stubborn stains.
Juices, gravies, coffee and dairy products can leave a nasty stain on your carpet. In this scenario, you will first want to dab the stain with a dry towel making sure to not spread it further by rubbing it too much. A mixture of vinegar, liquid dish washing soap and water is what you will need further. Take a spray bottle and add 1/4th cup of vinegar, 1 tablespoon of the liquid soap and fill the rest of the bottle with water. Spray the affected area and leave it be for about 10 minutes. Again, use a dry towel to dab the area till the stain is removed.
Sometimes, there are small accidents that occur at home. When few drops of blood fall on the carpet, there are a few tricks of stain removal that one can keep in mind. Firstly, don’t wait too long to remove the stain. The longer you wait, the more difficult it’s going to get to remove the stain. Remember to always use cold water instead of hot water to remove a blood stain. Cold water will prevent the blood from seeping into the fibres of the carpet, but warm water will clot the blood making it hard. Add two tablespoons of a grease fighting liquid or liquid soap, and water in a spray bottle. Spray it on the stain so that the stain is soaked completely. Use a dry towel to dab it. The blood stain will get transferred from the carpet to the cloth. Repeat this till the blood stain is removed completely.
Now here’s a stain dreaded by all. It’s a known fact that ink stains are the most troublesome to get rid of. However, with a little quick thinking and handy household products, it is possible. Wet a clean cloth with isopropanol that has a high percentage of alcohol and dab the wet cloth on the stain so that it is completely absorbed. You don’t want the stain to spread so be sure to not rub or scrub the area. Leave it for a few minutes and then use a vacuum cleaner to absorb the moisture. If you’re lucky, the stain will be gone after the first attempt. If not, repeat the process few times and the stain will disappear. Other household products with high amounts of alcohol like hairspray, acetone and alcohol itself can also work.
Of course, professional carpet cleaners and specific carpet cleaning solutions also help get the job done, but you can always try these techniques at home first.
